Trapolin-Peer Architects designed a signature building for Wellen Park, a new master planned community in Central Florida. Situated on previously undeveloped marsh land, the area has seen continued growth and development, and has immediate adjacency to a large, newly created housing tract and newly constructed Atlanta Braves spring training facility.

Through a collaborative and iterative approach, TPA provided a striking, but appropriate, fully-activated four-sided building that promotes an active retail and outdoor dining environment and acts as a signature backdrop for a central greenspace. The structure will serve as a gateway into the town center from a remote parking lot, and is expressed as a destination building with a more civic type of presence.

The structure was originally presented as two buildings with a central walkway. Trapolin-Peer improved efficiency of the master plan by creating a signature architectural move that connected the two buildings with a ‘bridge’ at the second floor. This ‘bridge’ allowed for consolidated vertical circulation and acted as a gateway, expressed with a shallow arch, to the central outdoor space of the building. The proposed program was then rearranged to emphasize and activate this central outdoor space as a designed experience, as were the four sides of the exterior.

On the interior, TPA anticipated the varying uses of the white box space by maximizing the potential revenue producing spaces. Building infrastructure and service areas are incorporated in a way that minimizes public visibility, but result in a functional operations for the future tenants.
